Il giorno 3 giugno 2004 al Museo Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea
dell'Universitˆ di Roma "La Sapienza", si inaugura la mostra di Gloria
Pastore "Guardo" a cura di Mario de Candia e Patrizia Ferri.
Il fulcro della mostra di Gloria Pastore al MLAC costituito da due
sculture collocate in posizione speculare l'una rispetto all'altra.
Le due opere a grandezza naturale incarnano emblematiche e levigate
immagini femminili.
Questi due personaggi rispondono al calco di una medesima persona, reale
ed in carne ed ossa, realizzato in resina sintetica e riproposto in
due varianti, una bianca l'altra nera e tatuata.
Le figure rimandano ad una dimensione fluttuante e metafisica, tra presenza
e assenza, luce ed ombra, l'io ed il suo doppioÉ dimensione suggerita
anche da una sorta di "falso movimento" che dal loro interno genera
attriti, frizioni e sospensioni: tra spazio, tempo, implacabilitˆ del
divenire e tensioni interiori imploseÉ queste ultime, del resto, esplicitamente
evidenziate dalle corde che legano e costringono entrambi i corpi.
Il tatuaggio, che connota la figura nera, rimanda alla universalitˆ
del linguaggio ed al corpo sia come suo supporto sia come sorta di mappa,
misteriosa e da decodificare, di storie individuali e collettive; ma
anche, come racconta la serie di formelle di gesso a parete, il tatuaggio
rappresenta un segno di appartenenza e di identitˆ ramificato verso
altre realtˆ e culture, altri tempi ed altri luoghi.
A questi elementi centrali della mostra, fa da contraltare dialogico
una teoria di serpenti (realizzati in polvere lavica) che, come icone-immagini
profonde dell'immaginario simbolico collettivo, danzano lungo le pareti
dell'ambiente, indirizzando lo sguardo verso due grandi pannelli nei
quali gli stessi soggetti si compongono a formare una sorta di mandala
ibridato.
L'artista mescola generi e culture diverse, frammenti antropologici
arcaici e contemporanei, ironia e mistero, freddezza e passioneÉ e cos“
focalizza, ulteriormente in questa circostanza, la sua intensa riflessione
sull' uno ed il molteplice, sull'identitˆ e sulla differenza nonchŽ
sul corpo come tramite di comunicazione e di desiderio, e come parte
di un gioco complesso di rimandi e di evocazioni, che apre orizzonti
non esplorati dove l'artista privilegia "la dimensione dello smarrimento,
non solo e non tanto come cifra del secolo che si compie, quanto come
condizione per progettare un inedito approdo all'essere".
La mostra realizzata nella programmazione Laboratorio del MLAC con
il contributo della Regione Lazio per le ricerche in "Applicazione nuove
tecnologie multimediali arte contemporanea" nell'ambito dei corsi sperimentali
di Stage/Master in Cura Critica e Installazione Museale, voluti dal
direttore del Museo Simonetta Lux e realizzati dal curatore del MLAC

Exhibition opening: June 3, 2004 at 6.30 p.m.
On June 3, 2004, at the Museum Laboratory of Contemporary Art of "La
Sapienza" University in Rome, it will be inaugurated "Guardo" the personal
exhibition of Gloria Pastore, curated by Mario de Candia and Patrizia
Ferri.
The peculiarity of this exhibition is represented by two sculptures
placed face to face. The two works, that are full-sized enbody smooth
and emblematical female figure.
These two characters correspond to the tracing of the same real person,
realized in syntetical resin, but while one is white the other is black
and tattooed.
The two figure are connected with a metaphysical and floating dimension,
between presence and absence, light and shade, between the "ego" and
his double...This dimension is suggested also by a kind of "false movement"
that from inside generates frictions and suspensions, between the space,
the time, the implacability of the becoming and the inner tensions.
These tensions are explicitly underlined by cords that bind and compress
the both bodies.
The tattoo that distinguishes the black figure, suggests a link with
the universality of the language and with the body that here represents,
at the same time, a support and a kind of mysterious map, of individual
and collective histories. But the tattoo represents also a belonging
and identity sign branched towards other realities and cultures, other
times and other places.
A theory of "snakes" (realized in a lava dust) represents the dialogue
opposition, to these central elements of the exhibition. These images,
like deep icon-images of the simbolic collective imaginary, dance along
the walls of the room, turning the look towards two big panels where
the same subjects, composing themselves, create a kind of new symbol.
The artist mixes different genres and cultures, antropological fragments
at the same time archaics and contemporaries, irony and mistery, coldness
and passionÉ and in this way it focuses, further in this occasion, her
deep reflection about the "one" and the "multiple", about the identity
and and the difference and also about the body seen as the way of comunication
and desire, and as part of a complex game of evocation. This process
opens new horizon not yet explored where the artist prefers "the dimension
of the confusion, not only because it translates the sense of the end
of the century, but also because in this context it represents a favourite
condition to project a new landing in the own essence".
The exhibition is realized according the Laboratory program of MLAC
with the contribution of the Region of Lazio for the research in "New
multimedial technology application for contemporary art". It is realized
according the MLAC program of experimental courses of Stage/Master in
Critical Curating and Museum Installation. Given by the director of
the museum Simonetta Lux and realized by the MLAC's curator Domenico
Scudero.
