Under the Bridge / SLUM_TV

Artist and activist Alexander Nikolic presents two collaborative projects ideated on the last two years.

Under the Bridge (Belgrade 2004) is a cooperation between “horrorkatze” and “eroticunion”. About 20 artists from Serbia and other regions of Europe meet for 4 days in Belgrade. On walks, tours and visitations the participants observe all kinds of habits of life and possible models of their interpretation. Some of their actions have conceptual character, others are simply invitations for a visit. Some walks are public, some ask for active participation, others are personal and private. Every evening there is a meeting in a restaurant. On the last day a meeting Under the Bridge, located in the geographical center of Belgrade, where 2500 People live without Water and Energy.

SLUM-TV (Nairobi 2006) Nikolic presents the Pilot of SLUM-TV, featuring Austrian artist Lukas Pusch during his performance Vienna Voodoo in Mathare, a slum on the periphery of Nairobi. SLUM-TV is a single project, which can be understood as writing oral history. In Mathare people die like flies because of misery, AIDS, dirt. Photography, film and video are the only form of the local Historiography. SLUM-TV documents the life of the people in the slum and to revalue these lives through the camera.

Alexander Nikolic is an artist, filmmaker, researcher. After his studies at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien and the Academy of Fine Art, Belgrade, participate at several actions, projects and expositions all around Europe, focusing his research on video producing, web-based collaborative projects and on the eastern Europe area. Nikolic has been guest professor at the Willem De Kooning Accademie Rotterdam and had lectured and presented in several countrys and institutions.

L'artista ed attivista Alexander Nikolic presenta due progetti collaborativi realizzati negli ultimi due anni.

Under the Bridge (Belgrado 2004) e' una cooperazione tra “horrorkatze” and “eroticunion”. Circa 20 artisti Serbi e provenienti da altri paesi europei si incontrano per 4 giorni a Belgrado. Tra passeggiate, ricognizioni e visite, i partecipanti osservano ogni tipo di stile di vita ed i sui possibili modelli di interpretazione. Alcune azioni da loro organizzate hanno carattere concettuale, alcune altre sono semplici inviti a visitarli. Alcune passeggiate sono pubbliche, alcune richiedono una partecipazione, altre sono individuali e private. Ogni sera avviene una riunione in un ristorante. L'ultimo giorno una riunione a Under the Bridge, che si trova nel centro geografico della città di Belgrado, dove 2500 persone vivono senza acqua ed elettricita'.

SLUM-TV (Nairobi 2006) Nikolic presenta la puntata pilota di SLUM-TV, realizzato con l'artista austriaco artist Lukas Pusch durante la sua performance Vienna Voodoo a Mathare, una baraccopoli nella periferia di Nairobi. SLUM-TV e' un progetto minimo, che puo' essere presentato come la scrittura di una storia orale. A Mathare la gente muore come mosche per la miseria, l'AIDS e la mancanza di igene. Fotografia, film e video sono le sole forme di Storiografia locale.
SLUM-TV documentale vite degli abitanti della baraccopoli ed attraverso una macchina da presa da dignita' a quelle esistenze.

Alexander Nikolic e' un artista, filmmaker, ricercatore. Dopo i suoi studi all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Vienna e l'Accademia di Belgrado, ha partecipato a numerose azioni, progetti ed esposizioni collettive e personali in tutta Europa, incentrando la sua ricerca sulla produzione video, su progetti collaborativi che si sostengono con il Web e sull'area est-europea. Nikolic e' stato professore invitato alla Willem De Kooning Accademie di Rotterdam ed ha realizzato conferenze e presentazioni in numerose istituzioni internazionali.
