Il lavoro di Christiana Protto si divide fra l’attività artistica e l’attività curatoriale; suo il progetto Home Abroad realizzato a Francoforte e in altre sedi, tra cui anche Roma – allo studio Change e Sala 1 – sulle convergenze artistiche di un’arte dislocata, del frammento e della interstizialità, prodotta da una generazione di artisti che hanno perduto il senso del “locale” per adeguarsi ad una realtà in continua trasformazione ed in cui il significato stesso di “territorio abitato” assume significati che vanno al di là della semplice identificazione con le radici stanziali dell’uomo moderno: questo progetto, di un’arte che diviene simbolo della caducità dell’ambiente abitativo e dell’appartenenza ai luoghi dell’abitare si esprime anche attraverso le installazioni complesse che Christiana Protto ha elaborato specificamente per gli spazi in cui espone il suo lavoro. Nel suo percorso è, inoltre, la forte sollecitazione ad indagare le affinità che legano il lavorio curatoriale alla produzione artistica in sé. Il progetto espositivo di Christiana Protto si delucida soprattutto nelle interazioni con il contesto reale, di cui si indaga la provvisorietà, anche quando investita, come nel caso di una sede museale ed istituzionale, da dinamiche che si vorrebbero permanenti. Il senso di effimero che emana dalle installazioni di Christiana Protto si tramuta così in un più profondo sentimento di caducità della vita, sempre in bilico fra esistenza e sparizione, ideali e nichilismo.
Per l’installazione appositamente ideata per il Museo Laboratorio Christiana Protto realizzerà una ambientazione complessa in cui lasciar interagire frammenti del quotidiano e della naturalità vitale con supporti ed elaborati digitali, video wall e proiezioni appositamente calibrate per l’occasione.
La mostra è realizzata nella programmazione “Praxis” del MLAC con il contributo della Regione Lazio per le ricerche in “Applicazione nuove tecnologie multimediali arte contemporanea” nell’ambito dei corsi sperimentali di Stage/Master in Cura Critica e Installazione Museale, voluti dal direttore del Museo Simonetta Lux e realizzati dal curatore del MLAC Domenico Scudero.
La mostra è realizzata in collaborazione con IFA – Institut fur Auslandsbeziehungen.

Personal exhibition of Christiana Protto curated by Domenico Scudero
Exhibition opening: March 4, 2004 at 6 p.m
Christiana Protto’s work is divided between the artistic activities and her own work of curator. Her Home Abroad project from Frankfort and in other works such as work done in Rome, at the Studio Change and Sala 1, are works about the convergence of a displaced art. Displaced art is a fragmented art producted by a generation of artists that lost a sense of the “local” which brings into lines with a real characteristic of a constant transformation, the same concept of “inhabit territory” assumes a meaning that is more complex than the simple identification with the root of the modern man. This project wants to represent an art that is symbol of the transience of the built-up-area and the belonging to the living place express itself even through the complex installation that Christiana Protto elaborated specifically for the rooms where she exhibits her work. In her art work the solicitations investigate the complex relationship between the work of the curator and the art production. The Christiana Protto exposive project finds a real clarification in the interactions with the real context, the temporary nature examined, even when it is totally accepted as in the case of a museum or a institutional site, from dynamics that should be permanent. The ephemeral sense that we can appreciate from Christiana Protto’s main work, translate itself in a deeper transience feeling of life, always suspended between disappearing and existence, ideals and nihilism.
Christiana Protto will realize, for the installation specifically made for the museum, a complex setting in witch there are fragments of everyday life and nature vitality with digital elaborates, video walls and projections balanced for the occasion.
The exhibition is realized according the “Praxis” program of MLAC with the contribution of the region of Lazio for the research in “New multimedial technology application in the contemporary art” and according to the MLAC program of experimental courses of Stage/Master in Critical Curating and Museum Installation, given by the director of the museum Simonetta Lux and realized by the MLAC’s curator, Domenico Scudero.
